The Holmfirth Triangle

A strange black triangle sighting took place in 1995 at Holmfirth Yorkshire. The strange encounter happened when four ffriends decided to take advantage of the clear night sky they arrived on the moors above the village of Holme and parked their van next to the Holme Moss transmitter tower this gave them an excellent vantage point looking towards Huddersfield. Leaving the van they took a short stroll across the moors. At 12:30am a bright light was seen in the south easterly area of the sky. The object appeared to be several miles away and alternated between hovering and moving erratically above the hilltops in the distance. All four of the witnesses agreed that the object seemed to be a while dome shaped light with a red glow underneath it. The object travelled to the north east across the sky, the object then stopped and hung stationary in the sky before going on the same course again. The ligth then suddenly seemed to vanish into thin air. The event lasted about one minute and the four sky watchers were surprised to see the object reappear a few moments later in around the same area but much higher up in the sky. The object followed a similiar course as it had before and then stopped and remained stationary in the nights sky. The object again did the same course over again swooping down above the hills roughly at the same height when it was first seen and again the object seemed to vanish.

Quite encouraged by the events of the night so far they decided to stay in the area and an hour and a half later at 1:50am the four witnesses were sitting in the van listening to the radio. One of them who was sitting in the drivers seat turned the radio off saying that he could hear something. An electric blue flash of light reflected in the wing mirror and caught his attention straight away. At this point he shouted "There's a plane or something coming in behind us." A low rumbling sound was heard and the sides of the van began to vibrate and flying roughly at the height of the transmitter tower which is around 75 feet in height was a large black triangular craft. The craft flew over the van and then over the transmitter and as it did the witnesses estimated the triangle's wing span as being 200ft across its back edge. The object clearly sillhouetted against the now partially cloudy sky. A number of lights were seen on the surface of the triangle all four agreed that there were three bright white lights on the underside of the object one at each apex of the triangle. Two of the witnesses noticed a red light on the underside slightly off centre and towards the front of the craft. The sound coming from the triangle seemed muffled and much quieter for any aircraft that could be flying at such a low altitude. As the mysterious craft passed over a dim beam of white light was seen coming from the front of it as if it where scanning the moors below it.
The craft then flew two miles from where the van was parked and then dissappeared into the distance. All four witnesses all had cameras with them on the night which to some may sound suspicious but they all insist that there encounter is a genuine account of events not taking a picture can probably be explained by the fact that what they were seeing was so amazing that night.
The next day the witnesses decided to investigate their encounter further and they contacted a number of RAF bases with there bizzare story the main one they decided to contact was RAF Leeming the closest to their location they said their last landing had been at 2pm but they thought the triangle could be explained by a helicopter of some sort. RAF Dishworth said it was nothing to do with them and RAF Finningly seemed more interested in getting the callers name and said that "We defnitely don't have anything." However a phone call made to RAF Farnborough proved the most interesting here the caller was put through an operations room and was told that aircraft were not allowed to fly near the Holme Moss transmitter the witnesses were near at the time. "Holme Moor is not a designated low flight area." The operations staff seemed very interested in the encounter. And at one point the witness was put pn hold while someone else was brought into deal with the call. The room became very noisy, with a lot of activity in the background. Finally the witness was told that what they had seen was most likely a helicopter or plane using a search light. This made his claim that planes were not allowed to fly over that area a little strange and odd and contradicted his claim. But all four witnesses were positive they had not seen a plane or a helicopter that night.

The witnesses made enquiries to the Secretariant Air Staff 2b at the MOD (Ministry of Defense) resulted in the claim that no military aircraft were operating at low level in the area in question. AS2 flt that what was seen was a military aircraft flying above 2000ft. If this is so then the military are flying very large aircraft that are well over several hundred feet across. After checking with the Civil Aviation Authority the possibility of is being a civilian aircraft was eliminated from the investigation. Below you will see a reply the witnesses got from the MOD.

Details of the sighting were passed onto Triangle Reseracher Omar Fowler founder of the Phenomenon Research Association and current editor of the long established Flying Saucer Review. Mr. Fowler later contacted the witnesses and was able to tell them a large black triangle had been seen forty minutes earlier that night over Sizewell nuclear power station. All the witnesses seemed sincere and genuine to those who investigated them and this sighting is still a mystery.
